Q: Is massage safe?

A:  Yes.  Heartsong’s practitioners are certified massage therapists, each with over 15 years experience in the healing arts.

Q: Do I need an appointment?

A:  We suggest that all clients set an appointment, however on occasion we do have availability for walk-ins.

Q: What should I wear?

A:  You may wear whatever you like. We will leave the room while you undress; most people will disrobe completely knowing they will be covered with a sheet that is selectively turned back during the massage for privacy. Some people will choose to leave on their undergarments.

Q:  Will it hurt?

A:  Please note that sometimes people come to us and say they have a had massage in the past that was painful. There is absolutely no reason for your massage to be painful. It is very easy for us to give you a gentle or even a firm massage that is not painful.

Our technique is based on warming up the muscle and tissue in an area by first using a gentle or medium pressure. After that, with your consent, we may begin to work more deeply. If, at any point, we are using a technique or level of pressure that is uncomfortable to you, please tell us. That almost never happens at Heartsong Massage since our pratitioners are very focused on listening, in tune to your body’s current state and carefully work in such a way that the pressure, if deep, is always applied in a skillful and non-invasive way and with your permission.

Q: What is a sports massage?

A: Sports massage is a massage that is specifically designed to sooth athlete’s aching muscles.

Q: Will it be deep enough?

A: Many people who have had massage before or have massage on a regular basis like deep pressure and are quite willing to tolerate a certain amount of “non-invasive” pain so that a particular contracted muscle is completely released. Although it may be a bit painful during the massage, these people know they will probably feel significantly better the next day and so they are quite willing to receive a deep massage from a trained professional who knows how, when and where to apply a very firm pressure. If you are looking for a deep massage, please choose either the Chronic Pain or Sports option and be sure to let your massage therapist know in detail what benefit you are seeking from your massage.

Q: What to Expect at Your first massage:

A:  If you have never had a massage before, you are in for a treat. As one of our clients recently said, “the first time I had a massage, I thought I had gone to heaven!” Massage is deeply relaxing and enjoyable at the time, and the effect of it usually lasts from one to three days. A regular massage program can uplift your life creating joy and increased productivity in many areas of your life. When you first arrive we will take a few minutes to talk with you so that we can be sure to plan your massage to closely match your needs for that particular day. Massage therapy is one of the few things in this society that feels good and is good for you!

After your therapist hears from you, we will outline our plan for your massage and then leave the room while you undress. Some people may prefer to leave on some of their clothing which is fine or you may disrobe completely in privacy. You will next lie on our comfortable padded massage table on one sheet and place the other sheet on top of you so that you will have privacy throughout the massage. When you are ready, the massage therapist will knock before re-entering the room and beginning the massage. We will consult with you to find a music selection and a room temperature that you like. We will normally alternate a medium and deep pressure. We will remind you that if, at any time you feel uncomfortable, please let us know and we will adjust our approach immediately. Please review the types of massage listed on our menu page to decide which type of massage you prefer.

Q: Is massage therapy covered by my medical insurance?

A: If massage therapy is required due to an accident or injury, your medical insurance may cover the costs of your treatment. For information specific to your provider, please call your insurance company.
